Let's be real. His early movies were pretty good starting w Above the law where he showcased real martial arts technique and execution. But then he let himself go and not just a little. Put on a LOT of weight. Its clear in his more recent movies because he can't fight and move like he used too the fight scenes are all motion using camera tricks and sound effects. It's unwatchable and an embarrassment

In my opinion mr. Seagal here is actually a very good martial artist. In movies that is, but when he wants you to believe that he is a good martial artist IRL then it all falls apart because all of his fights are just like the movies. Choreographed. Have you seen how his opponents do flips instead of falling flat when he simply pushes them away? And the way his opponents come at him is not how someone would come at you in real life if they wanted to beat you up or kill you. Im sure in his years of training aikido he learnt some useful stuff like how to block, dodge, punch etc but he just does the flashy choreographed stuff because people who dont know anything about martial arts may think he is really strong and that fallates his ego. If he picked up an actually useful martial art that works like kyokushin karate, krav, muay thai, boxing and some type of grappling based martial art on the side to compliment the others then i think he would be good at it in no time since he has a head start with his experience in aikodo and then maybe, just maybe he will stop being the butt of all jokes made by actual martial artists.

Best parts are when the master breaks limbs and joints.

Main problem with a ton of his films is no matter how great you are at fighting in general you will get hit. You will never be able to dodge every kick or punch or in many of his films, a knife or other weapon attack. Not all the people he’s facing in these films too are clueless on how to fight or use weapons.
